A rare exhibition at Retford Park: life-size reproductions in the main house
Don’t miss James Fairfax’s spectacular gift this spring: John Olsen, Charles Blackman, Tony Tuckson, Fred Williams, Russell Drysdale, Charles Condor, Eugene Von Guerard… and more.
At the heart of The Art of Giving
Works of 19 iconic Australian artists return to the main house, the majority replicated to scale. Some will hang in the spots they once did before James Fairfax AC donated these paintings to the National Gallery of Australia. The curatorial team at the NGA generously assisted with the recreation of the works and will open this ticketed exhibition.
Not only is this the first time these iconic paintings can be seen together, but also in the home of the man who donated them.
- Book your ticket from 1 September 2018.
- See all The Art of Giving events on the National Trust website.
Enduring gifts and the Fairfax legacy
The Art of Giving pays homage to remarkable acts of philanthropy. As well as the paintings from the NGA collection, in 2016 Fairfax gave Retford Park to the National Trust of Australia (NSW) for historical conservation and public enjoyment. This exhibition is a celebration of his contribution to Australia’s cultural heritage.
