Nebulae

The ARY artists were honoured to have Jane Cush, the director of the Goulburn regional art gallery, open this exhibition. In her own words:

“How timely that this exhibition coincides with the awe-inspiring space mission of Artemis 2.

The word nebulae evokes distant galaxies: immense, unknowable spaces that have stirred human curiosity for millennia. They are places of beginnings and endings—where stars are born from dust, and where remnants of what once was drift, reform, and become something new. In that sense, nebulae are not only astronomical phenomena, but powerful metaphors for existence itself.

Nebulae, brings together a constellation of artists exploring moments of change—where things are forming, drifting, dissolving, and becoming…

Some artists look outward to the night sky and the vastness of the universe, while others look inward or downward—to the ground beneath our feet, to the sea and to Australian landscapes, to the quiet rhythms of nocturnal life. Yet across these different perspectives, there is a shared sense of wonder, and a recognition of our connection to something much larger than ourselves.

Nebulae invites us to sit within that space of not fully knowing—to embrace mystery, transformation, and the beauty of change: to pause, reflect, to imagine, and to embrace both the mystery and the beauty of not fully knowing.”
